Here is Modern 4 Star Fletcher Hotel in Amsterdam by KOLENIK Eco Chic Design

The new four-‐star Fletcher Hotel in Amsterdam has been given a unique, sustainable interior by KOLENIK eco chic design. The hotel opened to the public on 11 January, 2013. The eco-‐chic style stands for natural, unique and honest materials which simultaneously exude luxury and warmth.

The futuristic hotel boasts a roof terrace on the 19th floor for smokers. Below this is Sky Restaurant Pi, which offers a panoramic 360° view of the city of Amsterdam. “A completely round restaurant with an open kitchen at altitude is spectacular, and a boon for Amsterdam”, says Chris Luken,Chairman of Fletcher Hotels . For the lounge of the restaurant, Kolenik integrated one of the largest chandeliers in the world, weighing in at around 1500 kg: ‘the dream’. An amazing four metres high and nine metres wide, it is suspended above the bar in Sky Restaurant Pi.

The sky lounge accommodates a unique showpiece, the Whaletone, fashioned in the form of a whale. The piano is made entirely of sustainable materials (no ivory keys) and part of the proceeds from every instrument sold goes to whale protection initiatives. The building satisfies all modern requirements in terms of sustainability and the environment. This is why the hotel has been certified with the highest hallmark for sustainability for companies in the leisure sector

House in Madrid by A-cero

House in Madrid by A-cero 5

The main idea is to integrate the building into the environment oriented to the fantastic views of the housing development, taking advantage of the slight off-level of the lot itself. The project evolves linked to these conditionings with two resounding volumes, rectangular, forming a very simple scheme, which solves the interior layout with large spaces in half levels and double heights.

About the building, highlight the clean finishes, select materials and unique qualities. The property is surrounded by a landscaping made with attractive interventions and an existing tree extension.

This amazing residence stands on the highest site of a mesmerizing island located several miles away from Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching on an area of 137 square meters, the main building includes a beautiful living room, a guest room with kitchen and glass doors leading out to large a bridge deck, a sauna and many more. I love the interior arrangements, which combine wood, glass and stone for a lovely and inviting atmosphere. Lots of light, funny rugs, an antique fireplace give more charm to the space. O-14 Tower Designed by Reiser + Umemoto

This is O-14 Tower Designed by Reiser + Umemoto, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Description from Designer:

O-14, a 22-story tall commercial tower perched on a two-story podium, broke ground in February 2007, and comprises over 300,000 square feet of office space for the Dubai Business Bay.  O-14 is located along the extension of Dubai Creek, occupying a prominent location on the waterfront esplanade.  With O-14, the office tower typology has been turned inside out – structure and skin have flipped to offer a new economy of tectonics and of space.

The concrete shell of O-14 provides an efficient structural exoskeleton that frees the core from the burden of lateral forces and creates highly efficient, column-free open spaces in the building’s interior. The exoskeleton of O-14 becomes the primary vertical and lateral structure for the building, allowing the column-free office slabs to span between it and the minimal core.  By moving the lateral bracing for the building to the perimeter, the core, which is traditionally enlarged to receive lateral loading in most curtain wall office towers, can be minimized for only vertical loading, utilities, and transportation.  Additionally, the typical curtain-wall tower configuration results in floor plates that must be thickened to carry lateral loads to the core, yet in O-14 these can be minimized to only respond to span and vibration.  Consequently, the future tenants can arrange the flexible floor space according to their individual needs.

The main shell is organized as a diagrid, the efficiency of which is wed to a system of continuous variation of openings, always maintaining a minimum structural member, adding material locally where necessary and taking away where possible.  This efficiency and modulation enables the shell to create a wide range of atmospheric and visual effects in the structure without changing the basic structural form, allowing for systematic analysis and construction.  As a result, the pattern design is a combination of a capillary branching field, gradients of vertical articulation, opacity, environmental effects, a structural field, and a turbulence field.

Manchester Civil Justice Centre Building

Manchester Civil Justice Centre Building 1

This new manchester civil justice centre building is a great architectural building that symbolize the open and accessible character of the civil justice system designed by Denton Corker Marshall. The building completion was done in 2007 with Associate Company Mott MacDonald as the structural engineer of this Manchester’s new courts.

The core function, the dispensing of justice in court and hearing rooms, is expressed by housing them in a band of accommodation that is cantilevered out beyond the building’s basic footprint, thereby creating a strong sculptural facade over the entrance to the north and over a public square to the south. Standing in the atrium and looking up through its ten floors, the visitor is greeted by a fantastic sculptural composition of floors, beams and cantilevered pods to rival any cathedral roof. High-level clerestories bounce daylight into the courtrooms in the very heart.

Nebuta Ice House by molo design

The building is enclosed by twisted steel ribbons, each shaped to create variation: openings for light, areas of opacity, views, or opportunities for pedestrian circulation. The ribbons were individually crafted during prefabrication, then manually adjusted on-site during installation. No part of the finished screen is the result of digital fabrication; like all things handmade, human intervention enlivens function. Inside, a shadowy dwelling for the Nebuta is shaped by the layers of screens and volumes of ancillary rooms. The interior is black – like a black box theatre – the volumetric juxtaposition accommodates many possible uses and perspectives. The abstraction of materiality, detail and colouring of the building allow visitors an intimate focus on the story being told. Luminous Nebuta appear suspended in the darkness of the hall, their vibrant colours reflected only in the rippled, water-like floor.

Giant sliding doors divide and connect the main exhibit area from the theatre and multi-purpose spaces and provide a dynamic visual connection to the Nebuta during musical and theatrical performances, encouraging flexible use. During events, the towering Nebuta exit and enter the building through another sliding door. When sitting in the theater with both sets of sliding doors open, one can see the vibrant Nebuta below, and beyond, Aomori harbour and the Hakk?da mountains.

The exterior screen creates a sheltered perimeter space called the engawa, acting as a threshold between the contemporary world of the city and the world of myth. Shadows cast on the walls and floor through the exterior ribbons have the effect of creating a new material. Shadow and light become another screen – the convergence of material, light, shadow and reflection changing with the sun and weather.

Homogeneous, grey, box-like buildings constitute much of the surrounding cityscape. Commonplace objects like power lines and vending machines are dispersed throughout the uniformity. Here, the building appears as a vibrant curtain at the street’s end – activating the streetscape, transforming everyday experience into theatre. Bicycles and traffic passing by, city workers breaking to eat or children playing in the snow take on a quality of performance and play.

Despite the challenges of designing an important cultural building while respecting a conservative budget, the evolution of the building’s type and program stands as symbolic foreshadowing of the many possibilities for use. Already, programming has demonstrated a broad range of uses: workshops, conferences and new cultural events are taking place. Perhaps the building can help to usher the time-honoured tradition of Nebuta into a contemporary era, offering a place to share ideas and bring creative minds together, even artists of different cultures and disciplines. At the building’s completion there were almost no existing artifacts. The building elevates Nebuta in the public life of the city, celebrating the stories and impressive craft of the ephemeral paper floats.
